This plug is used all around the world. It comes in various forms with various pin diametres. The continental European plugs have 4.0 mm (2.5-10A) or 4.8 mm (10-16A) pins.
Obviously, sockets which accept the larger pins also accept the thinner pins. To ensure that it makes satisfactory contact in all sockets, the 2.5A Europlug has flexible pins bent sligthly inwards.   It fits socket C, E, F, J, K and narrow L. Plugs with larger pins fit sockets E, F, K and many type C. However, some countries use sockets which accept only the smaller pins. The older version of this plug is fully round and still found on old ungrounded and single insulated appliances. As it is round, it only fits type C, narrow L and K sockets. (If it has the thicker pins, it will only fit K and some type C sockets) There is also a 16A "contour" plug with thick pins that fits sockets E, F and C. In countries using E or F sockets, the flat Europlug or the contour plug is used for double insulated appliances. |
